So many people wanted to participate in Dressage New Brunswick's first competition of the season on May 23-24 that show organizers had to bring in a second judge and start each day at 7:a.m. to accommodate everyone. Interest in the sport, which showcases the grace and beauty of well trained horses performing in harmony with their riders, continues to grow each year.
"Kudos to the DeGarie family," said judge Susan Fraser from Nova Scotia. "They have kept the sport alive and growing in New Brunswick." Fraser explained that the family actively promoted the sport and helped to encourage and increase membership in Dressage New Brunswick. Competitors at this event came from the three Maritime provinces.
The next dressage event at the PLP Show Centre will be held on July 25-26 and will include the very popular Freestyle Extravaganza competition. Spectators will have the opportunity to enjoy watching horses and riders 'dancing' together through carefully choreographed routines set to music.
Coming Up
Next week-end, May 30-31, the gentle giants will take over the Show Centre. Draft horses of many breeds will compete - being shown both in-hand and driven. Last year the multi-horse hitches were crowd favourites as were the junior driving competitions.
The Sunrise Summer Classic - a combined Arabian and Morgan horse show, kicks off the month of June on the 6th and 7th. This show features English and Western riding classes, as well as driving and dressage - a little something for everyone.
June 19-21 will see the Quarter Horses competing in the annual MQHA (Maritime Quarter Horse Association) Highland Classic. These versatile horses will be shown in-hand and ridden English and Western style.
The month will wrap up on the 27th and 28th with two days of Reining competition. Speed, spins and sliding stops are always thrilling to watch.
